The Grand Circus

(2002)

I wrote this piece for myself to perform when I studied at the Chicago College of Performing Arts in Chicago. The circus “theme” came to me naturally because I’ve always been fascinated by it. The acts, the gipsy-like lives the artists live... And because I was from born in a very small suburb of Rio de Janeiro, (where the cultural scene was pretty much dead) I was always very eagerly thankful when I heard the news of a new troupe coming into town. There is no score for this work. The music ended up being memorized (and sometimes improvised) so I never wrote it down. However, there is a live recording of it on the music page.
