    The Mosaic Project

    The Mosaic
    Project

The Mosaic Project is a unique collaborative music experience that brings together people of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures to create music.

A mosaic is a work of art made by assembling small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials. It is the ultimate example of diversity in art: pieces that would rarely come together become one image. I set out to find that same beauty in music, because music makes me feel connected to everything and everyone at once.

    Mosaic Variations

For guitar orchestra & electronics, with Austin Classical Guitar

The first installment: a new work for guitar orchestra in which 50 young guitar students were my co-composers. They wrote musical ideas based on a melody I created on a pentatonic scale, “the main theme.”

Composing with young musicians changed how they saw the creative process, and their engagement went to stratospheric levels. Seeing students tap into their creativity was magical.

    Tapestry

    Piano quintet, Mainly Mozart Festival

The festival’s theme was celebrating women in music, and I was the composer chosen for the occasion. I was thrilled with the invitation, and felt that hearing many women’s voices would be even more compelling. So I called for pieces of music on social media and worked with material from 40 women composers around the world.

The result was TAPESTRY, premiered at the festival in 2023.

    Do What's in Your Heart

"The best ideas often come from collaboration. When multiple people come together to brainstorm, they can build on each other's creativity and come up with more innovative solutions than anyone else could have done alone."
