Clarice Assad

Educational Programs

Clarice Assad builds music programs inside institutions: orchestras, universities, schools and public radio. No two have ever been the same.

Some are a single workshop, where a room of people who do not call themselves musicians are making music together within the hour. Some run a full season and end in a premiere. Some are one composer and Clarice, going through a score bar by bar.

Residencies

Built for the room it's in.

A residency can run a week or four seasons. At MIT it became Amazônia Sem Lei. With the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra it took a year and became THE EVOLUTION OF AI. In Albany, high schoolers from Girls Inc. wrote a piece of their own and performed it with the orchestra. In Allentown, Assad is several seasons into a run that goes through 2027.

Voxploration

Your body is your instrument.

An award-winning workshop in improvisation, built on making music with nothing but the voice and the body: no instruments, no notation, no experience required. It works with second-graders, with conservatory students, and with adults.  VOXploration mixes music, theater, movement and creates an environment where everyone in the room is creating together within minutes.

COMPOSER MENTORING

Clarice Assad working with student composers at the University of Maryland

For composers, one to one.

Clarice Assad’s approach to teaching comes from understanding every student’s personal needs, abilities and identifying places where they need most work. Usually in an environment where the music can be performed and workshopped by real musicians, composition and arranging are treated in different ways. Assad also tackles career advice, such as commissioning, working with others and pursuing one’s dreams in the field of music.
