Dear Friends,
I hope everyone is doing super well!
What an exciting season, the entire world premieres! FLOW, my piano suite for orchestra featuring myself on keyboard and sundrum, was one of the most incredible experiences alongside the Albany Symphony. It received glowing reviews, and so did the overture “Water Nymphs” at the Grant Park Festival. The Chicago Tribune wrote:
“A festival commission by Clarice Assad, “Water Nymphs,” made off as the evening’s unqualified success. Few composers marry sophistication and charisma like Assad, and this five-minute opener — dedicated to her two young daughters — was more of the same from the Chicago-based Brazilian American composer. Debussyian textures give way to glittering pointillism in pizzicato strings and piano, then a lopsided dance. All the while, bent pitches wail across the orchestra. The piece ends with a mighty surge, like being submerged by rolling surf. “
Our next stop will be at the Grand Teton Festival with my father, Sergio Assad, on the Jazz series and with Third Coast Percussion on the Classical Music Series, performing my concerto PLAY! We can’t wait to play this piece again. Then I head out to Newport, RI, to premiere the 3rd Chapter of “Chronicles of Ghosts” (Whispers from a Pirate Queen), which I am very excited about! Marrying narration, singing, and some theatricals performed by Publiq Quartet and Renee Rapier.
The big trip will happen in mid-July for the 10th Anniversary of The Assad Music Festival in São João da Boa Vista, Brazil. We’ll be performing with the whole family and having some wonderful family reunion celebrating my grandmother’s 94th birthday!
Thank you for being here, and I wish you a beautiful month filled with wonder and happiness!
Clarice
