Now Hear this – PBS

Hello everyone! I am so glad to share this fantastic news: My father, Sergio Assad, is being featured as a composer for an episode on the PBS series Now Hear This (Great Performances), hosted by the great conductor Scott Yoo. The episode explores samba and maxixe: Two prominent rhythms in Brazilian music which we have been using and recycling since the beginning of our musical history.

The episode, which premieres on April 29, 2022, features a song called “Se Você Jurar,” a standard in the Brazilian music repertoire, written by composer Ismael Silva. I am super happy to be a part of this moment alongside my friend and longtime collaborator João Luiz Rezende on cavaquinho.
