Displaced Lines

The composition “Displaced Lines” explores the concept of a Portuguese word called “Saudade.” Saudade is difficult to translate into other languages. Still, it is often described as ‘longing’ — here, we long for hope, through sorrow and melancholy, given all the disruption, disorientation, fragmentation, and instability in our current world. It is not a scream for help, but a quiet sigh. Like the displaced lines that eventually find their new equilibrium, the piece’s ultimate journey roams towards a sense of resolution.
