Orchestra LUMOS | Five American Portraits
“Five American Portraits” is a new suite commissioned by Orchestra Lumos from five American composers, marking its world premiere. Each movement portrays a person or event shaping the nation, supported by The Soroca Fund for American Music and the Orchestra Lumos Commissioning Club, including donors like Norma and Donald Stone.
Concert Program
The premiere occurs in the “America 250” concerts on April 17-18, 2026, at the Palace Theatre in Stamford. The full program features Leonard Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On the Town, George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue (with pianist Joshua Mhoon, Stern Young Artist 2025/26), Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, and the new commission. These events celebrate America’s musical diversity, dedicated to the memory of Louise B. Stern.
