For Solo Marimba
Duration: 5 minutes | Commissioned by Mika Stoltzman
About this work:
I have long been fascinated by the symmetrical visual patterns created by kaleidoscopes. Its colored pieces of glass in rotation can create the illusion of a thousand images, resulting in an ever-changing view. With this idea in mind, I set out to write this work for marimbist Mika Stoltzman, whose craftsmanship and musicality are of infinite beauty and imagination. Here, the visual cell blocks that make up the kaleidoscopic dream are performed by the musician as a wide palette of sounds and subtle, constant harmonic and rhythmic change.
