Luminescence

Luminescence is a work dedicated to singer-songwriters Luhli and Lucina, who were extremely prolific in the 60’s and 70s in the Brazilian alternative music scene.  Their life story is absolutely fascinating, and I had the privilege to be a part of their journey when I was only 13 years old, working as a sub for my piano teacher at the time (Sheila Zagury) in the early 90’s.  This quartet is made up of fragments from melodies of their creation, some well known in the Brazilian music community, and other lesser popular melodies that I loved and remembered from long ago.  The piece was commissioned by the Quarteto Toccata and recorded on their album Paisagens Brasileiras.
